Students in the Pharmacy Technician program learn the knowledge and practical skills needed to work in retail pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, specialty pharmacies, and other healthcare environments. The curriculum includes medication classifications, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical calculations, prescription processing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory management, and patient safety. Through classroom instruction and hands-on training, students gain the confidence and experience needed to pursue entry-level employment in the pharmacy field.

Students will complete classroom instruction by reviewing course materials, pharmacy procedures, medication classifications, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical calculations, and workplace expectations to build the knowledge needed for hands-on training.

Students will participate in hands-on skills training to practice essential pharmacy technician duties, including prescription processing, medication preparation, inventory management, dosage calculations, customer service, and pharmacy operations in a simulated pharmacy environment.

After successfully completing classroom instruction and hands-on skills training, students will participate in a supervised pharmacy externship. During this experience, students apply their knowledge and skills in a real pharmacy setting while working alongside licensed pharmacists and experienced pharmacy staff to gain valuable workplace experience and prepare for entry-level employment.
